Hidden in Darkness D Fevig, April 27, 2024May 8, 2024 Our church does a free dinner twice a month. Recently, the topic of abortion came up at our table. A person made the statement, “I’m in favor of abortion. It’s a woman’s choice, between her and her doctor”. In spite of attempts to clarify and share truth with her, she adamantly maintained, “I’ll never change my mind”. Darkness This attitude is typical in our present day, in our country. Proponents of abortion rights nearly always speak in the realm of concepts and ideas, never the reality. They reduce this barbaric practice to slogans like “reproductive health”, “the right to choose”, “it’s my body”, etc. etc. etc. They present abortion as a safe, simple procedure with no side effects except freedom from the “burden” of pregnancy. But they pay no attention to what God thinks. In Psalm 139 David wrote that God knit us together in our mothers’ wombs, that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Those little lives in the womb are not just “blobs of flesh” but real people, created in the image of God. The prophet Isaiah described this attitude many centuries ago. “Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, “Who sees us? Who will know?” (Isaiah 29:15 NIV). Abortion usually takes place in a private room in a clinic. And always in the darkness of the womb. Abortion supporters never talk about the details of what takes place in the darkness. Shining the Light A pro-life organization, Live Action, produced a 3-D depiction of the life of a pre-born child, from conception to birth. It’s called “Baby Olivia“, and it is very accurate and moving. This should be required viewing for all women considering an abortion. In another Live Action video, they interview a man who is pro-choice to the max. He maintains that abortion should be legal throughout pregnancy up to the point of birth. After he watched a video about the procedure of a 2nd trimester abortion, he changed his mind. You can watch the video he saw here, but be warned; it is very disturbing. I couldn’t finish watching it. I commend Live Action for their work. As Paul the Apostle wrote in Ephesians 5:11, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” They are doing their best to expose this evil for what it is. Abortion is Big Business But abortion providers would never show these videos. In fact, abortion is a significant money-maker for them. For example according to Planned Parenthood’s most recent report, for every adoption referral they made, they performed 258 abortions. And they also offer so called “gender affirming” services, which is another lucrative business. It’s clear what their motives are. Never mind that abortions and gender transitions are extremely harmful. And many recipients of abortions and transgender procedures regret them afterwards. But we hear nothing from abortion advocates about the destructive aftermath of these “services”. Expose the Darkness I encourage everyone to expose this evil. Isaiah also said “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20 ESV). Talk to your friends, write letters to the editor, help people to see the truth of abortion. Culture Corrie Ten Boom on persecution November 20, 2021April 28, 2024 My wife Kathy saw Corrie Ten Boom in person at an event in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This message is very similar to the one she heard, at around the same time as this letter was written in 1974. Corrie and her family sheltered Jewish people in their house in Holland during… Read More
Culture For Such A Time As This March 19, 2022April 9, 2024 I really don’t like this current time. Our culture is deteriorating rapidly, obsessed with sex, adopting unbiblical and unscientific views of the nature of sex and gender. Not only are many adopting these views, but their adherents are putting pressure on those of us who disagree. They refer to us… Read More
